Spain vs Austria — SoFi Stadium (3:00 PM ET)
Spain (~1.33) arrive as the tournament’s form defence — they won Group H unbeaten and became the first Spanish side ever to clear a World Cup group stage without conceding. The complication is up front: Nico Williams (adductor) and Yeremy Pino (shoulder) are both ruled out, leaving 18-year-old Lamine Yamal to carry the creative load. Austria, into the knockouts for the first time since 1998, are fully fit and dangerous through Arnautović and Sabitzer.
Pick: Spain to win, but taken on a handicap rather than the flat 1.33. A defence this miserly against an Austria side missing its own cutting edge points to a controlled Spanish win — the value is in a -1 line or a team-total, not a moneyline that barely pays.
Portugal vs Croatia — BMO Field, Toronto (7:00 PM ET)
The tie of the day, and a fitting one for Toronto’s large Portuguese and Croatian communities. Croatia were the overnight movers, shortening roughly 45% as money arrived, so the market already senses this is closer than the price gap suggests.
Pick: Portugal to qualify over Portugal to win in 90 minutes. Modrić’s Croatia are built to slow a game down and take it deep, so backing Portugal to advance — extra time and penalties included — is the cleaner route than betting on a regulation win.
Switzerland vs Algeria — BC Place, Vancouver (11:00 PM ET)
The day’s true coin-flip, and a first-ever competitive meeting between the two. Switzerland (~2.02) topped Group B — the same group in which they beat Canada 2–1 — and are fully fit, with Xhaka marshalling midfield. Algeria (~3.94) squeezed through as a third-placed side after a late 3–3 with Austria and are sweating on Amoura, a serious doubt with a thigh problem. The subplot: Algeria coach Vladimir Petković spent seven years managing Switzerland and now tries to knock out the side he built.
Pick: Switzerland on the draw-no-bet line rather than the flat 2.02. They are the more settled, fully-fit side, and taking the stake back if Algeria force extra time removes the coin-flip risk in a genuinely even tie.
